How to transform a small house in a larger one

Most of our homes ar not too big, so it's very important to know how to design them to seem much larger.

In a small house we have to use only the necessary, we have to pay attention to the colours and mostly, to the lighting.

1. Use light colours

Light colours offer the illusion of a bigger and brighter room. White is the best for creating this effect, but they're also some nice and delicate colours combinations like pastels. The designer's favourite combination is cream and light blue.

2. The light

Space may seem bigger if you let the natural light come into the house. If you don't have a nice natural light, you can use the artificial lighting as much as possible.

3. Have an organised home, without clutter.
4. Create a focal point: for example, in the kitchen the focal point is the table, in the bedroom - the bed. So concentrate on these areas and don't use to many decorations in the others.

5. Use mirrors. Mirrors reflect the light and the space, so a room will seem brighter and bigger.

6. Use multifunctional furniture, like chests that can be used as coffee tables.

7. Advices for the furniture: Use extandible tables and pliable chairs. Don't use big pieces of furniture or too many decorations and don't block the walking paths. It's also very important to leave free the center of the room. It would be nice to have some pieces of furniture with the same colour of the walls. You can also use tranlucid furniture, as tables or chairs, for the illusion of space.
